-- Joan Jett and The Blackhearts
I thought it might be fun to do a little series on some guilty pleasures. So I'll tell you some things I love that make me somewhat ashamed, but as a bonus, I'll give you those items' antidotes that make me feel a bit better. Y'all play along, too, ok?
1) "Girlfriend" by Avril Lavigne
Grrr..... I can't believe I like this one, but I do. Why should I hate myself for loving it? It's a total rip off of "Mickey" by Toni Basil and the hand claps and cheering doesn't work nearly as well as it did for Gwen Stefani with "Hollaback Girl." But I still like it.
The Antidote -- "Introducing Joss Stone" by Joss Stone. If you're not familiar with Joss she's a 19 year-old soul singer from Britain. She's fantastic. I skipped her last record because I heard the lyrics were childish, but girl is definitely grown on her third effort. Joss penned songs like "Headturner" "Baby, Baby, Baby" and "Tell Me What We're Gonna Do Now" more than make up for my little Avril indiscretion.
2) “What Goes Around Comes Around” by Justin Timberlake
I’m sorry y’all, I can’t NOT be a bit embarrassed to like a song with these lyrics: “You cheated girl, my heart
BLEEDED girl.” Seriously. Work on the rhymes JT – you should have time to do so since the sexy has been fully brought back. And the title itself is cliché, but I’m steady singing it in the car on the way home every.single.day.
Antidote – “Makes Me Wonder” by Maroon5
I don’t think I could possibly explain how excited I am that Maroon5 has new music out! And PS, it’s freaking awesome. The track is just hot, that’s all there is to it. A bit disco, a bit Prince-esque, but still M5 through and through.
You can check it out on their site.
Ok, there will be more to come, so your turn – hit me.
