Good morning sunshine!

So, I'm downstairs this morning in my office building and I turned around and was in spitting distance of someone I don't know. So, what did I do? Being the ever-friendly person I am, I said, "Hi!" The lady stared at me blankly, and turned her back and kept going. So, I'm thinking why didn't she say hi back? Yes, we don't know each other, but we obviously work in the same building, a little friendliness won't kill you. Oh well, I wanted to say, "or not" when she didn't respond, but I didn't.

There is a policy here that I find fascinating. In orientation they make you sign a paper saying you've read all the policy stuff. One that they went over in class was elevator etiquette. As an employee, if you are on an elevator and a non-employee gets on, you must smile and speak. When the elevator stops, all employees are required to let all non-employees exit first while the employee holds the elevator door open. What a great idea. This forces us to be friendly to our visitors. I've noticed that I am practicing that policy just all the time, and you know what? It doesn't feel like a policy any more, it feels like good behavior and acting like my mama taught me. I know I'm preaching to the choir here, because all 2 of you reading this site are very friendly. Anyway, just had to rant. Happy Thanksgiving! even to the people that don't say hi back. =)
